Modern vehicles come equipped with built-in communication modules, allowing you to check the vehicle’s condition, start the engine, and control certain functions directly from a smartphone app.
Mercedes vehicles also support smartphone monitoring and control. Here, I’ll introduce the features I personally find the most useful.
Linking the Mercedes me App with Your Vehicle
First, download the Mercedes me app from Google Play Store or the Apple iOS App Store, and sign up. Once you register, your car will be linked immediately.
You can see the activated app screen as shown below. You can check the vehicle you own, its class, and basic information such as the vehicle status.
If you’ve signed up on your phone but the app doesn’t sync or fails to verify vehicle ownership, it will be difficult to use. This often happens if you’ve purchased a used car or have a lease agreement where the owner and the user are not the same. In this case, a visit to a Mercedes service center will solve the problem easily.
As you can see, if you tap on the Mercedes me ID in the Mercedes me/app section of your vehicle and someone else’s name appears, simply make a service appointment at the center and they’ll quickly update it for you.
For corporate lease vehicles, sometimes they’ll say they can’t change it because the owner and the user are different. But in my case, once I brought my business registration certificate, they fixed it right away.
Now that your vehicle and the Mercedes me app are successfully linked, let’s take a look at the actual features you can use.
Checking Driving Data
When driving a vehicle, consumables like engine oil and tires need to be replaced periodically. While the car itself may provide regular maintenance alerts, you can also check them in advance through the app screen.
In the app, you can check driving data such as remaining driving range, fuel level, and total mileage. You can also see trip data from the time of departure or after resetting.
For the Mercedes E-Class 220d, the actual fuel economy is around 30.2 mpg (≈12.8 km/L), which is quite good thanks to the diesel engine.
Checking Vehicle Status
Another useful feature is checking the status of your vehicle. By selecting “Vehicle Status,” you can see whether windows or doors are open, or whether the parking brake is engaged.
Although you can’t remotely close the windows or doors from the app, it sends you a notification if something is left open. That way, if you forget to close them, you can take care of it. In summer, even if you leave the windows slightly open and the app issues a warning, it’s still a handy feature.
So far, we’ve looked at how to use the Mercedes me app to monitor and control your vehicle.
Depending on the package you purchased, some features may be limited, but I recommend making the most of the smart functions that are available.
